♦ PLEASE NOTE: WESTFIELD TOWN CLOSURES/CHANGES DUE TO COVID-19

~ RECYCLING CENTER: EFFECTIVE APRIL 11th the Westfield Recycling Center is CLOSED until further notice. Recycling will be open as usual on Saturday, April 4th.

~ TRASH: Trash will continue to be accepted on Saturdays 8 a.m. to Noon. An attendant will be on duty to collect trash fees. Please be mindful of the 6’ social distancing practice.

~ STEEL BIN: You may continue to bring steel and place it in the steel bin at no charge.

~ PLAYGROUND AND RECREATION AREAS CLOSED: For everyone’s safety due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the playground and tennis/basketball recreation areas are closed to the public until further notice.

♦ Westfield Town Office & Hitchcock Memorial Museum and Library Closed:

Town Office/Vault & Library Closed to the Public (updated 3-26-20)

Operations are up and running behind the scenes, but in-person transactions will be limited to those of a critical nature and by appointment only. In response to mitigation efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 the Westfield Town Office and the Library are closed to the public until further notice.

Town business can be conducted via phone (744-2484), email (townofwestfield@comcast.net), fax (744-6224) or on Facebook messenger at Town of Westfield, Vermont.

The Rabies Clinic that was scheduled for March 21st has been postponed until April 18, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Westfield Town Garage. The Selectboard waived late fees for dog licenses until May 1st due to the current circumstances. Dog licenses can be renewed by USPS or by dropping payments and new rabies vaccination certificates (if applicable) in the secure drop box to the left of the front door at the Town Clerk’s office, 38 School Street. Instructions are posted on the drop box. 2020 renewed dog tags will be sent via USPS.

Free wifi is available in the parking lots at the Library and the Westfield Community Center. No password is needed. 

If you need a Westfield tax bill, please call the office or email your request.

All requests will be responded to as soon as possible during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

♦ WESTFIELD RABIES CLINIC & DOG LICENSE REMINDER:
Rabies Clinic Rescheduled for Saturday, April 18th (subject to change due to COVID-19 precautions)
10:30 – 11:30 AM
New Rabies Clinic location: Westfield Town Garage,
757 VT Route 100, Westfield (bay closest to Route 100; park near road and around sand pile).

The Westfield Selectboard has waived the late fees on licensing Westfield dogs until May 1 due to COVID-19 precautions.

The Town Clerk’s office is closed to the public until further notice (see above notification).  If you wish to license your dog, please either mail your check and necessary paperwork (if your dog has an updated rabies vaccination certification) to 38 School Street, Westfield, VT 05874 or put it in the secure drop box to the left of the front door at the Town Clerks office (address above). Please check to see if your pup needs a rabies vaccination before the April 1st dog licensing deadline. A person who is the owner of a dog or wolf-hybrid more than six months old shall annually on or before April 1 cause it to be registered 20 V.S.A. §3581(a). You must have an up-to-date rabies vaccination to license your dog.

Rabies vaccinations are being offered by The Animal Doctor, Dr. Selena Hunter, for $15 at the Westfield Rabies Clinic. Other vaccinations available: Distemper $15; Bordetella $15; Lepto $15; Leukemia $20; Lyme $30.

All communities are invited to attend with dogs and/or cats. Please remember all dogs must be on leashes.

For your convenience, the Westfield Town Clerk will be selling Dog Licenses for Westfield dogs during the Clinic.

  • Westfield Dog License fee BEFORE May 1st:
    Spayed/Neutered $9; Unaltered $13
  • Westfield Dog License fee AFTER May 1st:
    Spayed/Neutered $11; Unaltered $17

♦ 2020 ELECTIONS: Elections are held at the Westfield Community Center, 59 North Hill Road. Polling hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • August 11:  Primary Election Day 
  • November 3:  General Election

♦ HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN: Town officials, in conjunction with the towns Regional Planning Board, Northeastern Vermont Development Association (NVDA), recently began work on an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan. We are seeking input through a community survey. Paper copies of the survey are available at the Town Clerks office, at Town Meeting or the online survey may be completed by clicking this link: http://www.nvda.net/westfield

Your input will help us insure we mitigate potential hazards in our community. If you wish to participate on the committee, please contact a Selectboard Member (Yves Daigle, Jacques Couture or Anne Lazor) or the Town Clerk’s office at 744-2484.

Please plan to complete the survey by March 26, 2020 and plan to attend the Disaster Planning meeting on March 31st at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office. Thank you for your participation!

♦ SELECTBOARD CHANGE OF MEETING DAY/TIME: The Selectboard will now meet the third Monday each month for their regular monthly meeting (previously the second Monday). The time has also changed from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m. Contact the Town Clerk if you would like an item on the agenda.  


♦ WESTFIELD COMMUNITY MEALSITE FOR MARCH: DUE TO COVID-19 SERVICE SUSPENDED UNTIL APRIL 16TH

After careful consideration the Troy and Area Lions Club has decided to suspend the Westfield Senior Mealsite service until April 16th. This action has been taken to protect our more vulnerable seniors in light of the COVID-19 epidemic. The Exercise Works class which meets at the Westfield Community Center prior to the community meal has also suspended services until April 16th.

 DOG LICENSES ARE DUE BY APRIL 1ST EACH YEAR:

As mandated by Vermont state law, DOG LICENSESare due on or before April 1st each year. All dogs residing in Vermont are required to be licensed in the town where the animal lives. Proof of rabies vaccination is required prior to licensing. Licenses are purchased at the Town Clerk’s office.

Fees for licensing on or before April 1:
Spayed/Neutered $9; Unspayed/Unneutered $13

Fees for licensing after April 1:
Spayed/Neutered $11; Unspayed/Unneutered $17.

For your convenience, checks for license fees can be left in the secure drop box next to the Town Clerk’s front door. Once processed your dog’s license/tags will be sent to you by return mail.

♦ NOTICE TO HOMEOWNERS: Homestead Declaration are to be filed each year by every Vermont resident whose property meets the definition of a homestead. A Vermont homestead is the principal dwelling and parcel of land surrounding the dwelling, owned and occupied by a resident individual as the individual’s domicile on April 1. If your homestead is leased to a tenant on April 1, you may still claim it as a homestead if it is not leased for more than 182 days in the 2016 calendar year.
