♦ May 23rd and 25th, 2017: Rummage Sale item donations in good condition are accepted at the Hitchcock Memorial Library, 1252 VT Route 100 in Westfield for their upcoming Rummage/Bake Sale which will be held on Memorial Day Weekend (Friday-Sunday). Drop-off’s are accepted ONLY during library hours: Tuesday/Thursday 1 pm to 5 pm and Sunday 11 am to 3 pm. The rummage and bake sale will benefit the Hitchcock Memorial Library and the Westfield Congregational Church. For more information call 802-744-8258. ♦ May 25, 2017: Westfield Concert Series presents Missisquoi River Band, original and traditional bluegrass music. The concert is at 7 p.m. with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Westfield. Suggested donation is $10 with all proceeds helping fun church restoration efforts. 

The Missisqoui River Band features powerful original and traditional bluegrass music. Sheldon’s Patrick Murphy and Jim and Cindy Weed of Enosburg form the songwriting and vocal backbone of the band. Their unique three-part harmony arrangements are masterfully backed up by some of Vermont’s most well seasoned pickers including string wizard Will Patton of Bakersfield on mandolin and National Steel tenor guitar, and Jim Weed on lead guitar. Murphy and Cindy Weed complete the sound on rhythm guitar and solid bass fiddle. Please let your friends and neighbors know and bring them to a great night of music!

Registration begins at Sacred Heart Parish at 9 a.m. The Troy PTA will be hosting a 3K and 5K walk/run event to benefit the Troy School and Mary E. Wright Halo Foundation. ♦ June 22, 2017: FREE Backyard Composting Workshop in Westfield. Come and join the NEKWMD Outreach Assistant and Master Composter intern Shannon Choquette and members of your community for a FREE workshop about backyard composting. Whether you are a seasoned composter or someone who is just curious, we want you to join the discussion with your stories and questions! Soil Savers will be available for purchase by district members for only $45! Discussion items to be reviewed include: creating your compost pile; perfecting your compost pile “recipe”; the science of composting; and troubleshooting problems. Join us at the Westfield Community Center, 59 North Hill Rd., Westfield, VT on Thursday, June 22nd from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
